About Her

Vahideh Eisaei is an Iranian-Australian artist, Qanun player, composer, and singer based in Melbourne. She holds a Bachelor of Music from Tehran University faculty of Fine Arts and a Master of Music from the University of Western Australia. Since migrating to Australia, Vahideh has blended her deep knowledge of Persian music with a contemporary approach, creating a unique body of work that reflects her journey as a migrant woman.

Vahideh’s performances span Europe, the Middle East, and Australia, and her compositions draw from the rich narratives of Persian poetry and music, incorporating instruments like the Qanun, Cello, Ud, Clarinet, and Voice. Her most recent work, Love's Universe is Inside You, commissioned by Playking Productions, was performed at the Melbourne Recital Centre. In this piece, she served as both the composer and scriptwriter, collaborating closely with director Michael Kantor to bring her vision to life.

Her diverse body of work includes the critically acclaimed theatre production The Audition with Outer Urban Projects and La Mama, where she was the sole musician, crafting original music for the performance. She also conceived, composed, and performed in Lullaby with Outer Urban Projects, creating five pieces for Cello, Qanun, Ud, and Voice.

Vahideh received a grant from the Australia Council for the Arts to develop The Quintet, a new work with The Letter String Quartet, a rare composition for Persian Qanun in an Australian context.

Vahideh is a member of the Resonant Heart Collective, a collective creating spaces for women and female-identifying artists to share their voices, craft, and dreams. It features a kaleidoscope of original compositions and traditional works from Bosnian, Sephardic, Indian, and Iranian cultures, along with songs, stories, and poems in languages such as Nuer, Hindi, Bosnian, Farsi, and Judeo-Spanish Ladino. The collective highlights diverse artistic expressions and aims to connect these artists with wider Australian audiences.

Vahideh is the founder of Daftar Aval Trio, an ensemble that fuses storytelling with the sounds of the Qanun, Ud, and Cello, offering a distinctive musical experience that captivates audiences. Their performances, including sold-out shows in Melbourne and a concert at the Nolan Gallery Mona, have established them as a rare blend of Persian classical music and contemporary sounds in Australia.

Outside of her artistic practice, Vahideh is deeply engaged in advocacy and social work. She collaborates with multicultural organisations, using her platform to support migrant and refugee communities. Her work in both music and social justice fosters dialogue and understanding and crafting narratives that resonate with both her heritage and her present-day identity in Australia.
