Timeless: A Journey in Persian Classical Music
28 September 2025
Utzon Music Room, Opera House Sydney
Classical Persian music in all its elegance and refinement, played by international and Australian virtuosi: Vahideh Eisaie, Pegah Kheirdoush, Sohrab Kolahdooz, with Saba Pashaee and Hamid Khansari.
Sophisticated music of shimmer and subtlety
Australia is fortunate to have a rich diaspora of remarkable musicians educated in the intricacies of Classical Persian music. Three in our midst — Vahideh Eisaie (qanan), Pegah Kheirdoush (kamancheh and ghaychak) and Sohrab Kolahdooz (percussion) — are joined by distinguished Tehran-based colleagues Saba Pashaee (voice) and Hamid Khansari (oud) to celebrate the exquisite sounds of Persian culture. These young keepers of ancient traditions lovingly preserve the vocal radif that have been cultivated over centuries, and also remake them in contemporary compositions, offering their personal contributions to an ever-evolving culture. This is an afternoon of laments, lullabies, and hypnotic dance tunes, both classic and new.
